The Bay of Islands is a popular tourist destination in New Zealand for its deep sea fishing, kauri tree bushwalks, stunning golf courses and unforgettable diving with dolphins in pristine waters.
The other great quality that the Bay of Islands has is its people. You are greeted by warm and genuine Northlanders who have settled here to establish a calmer lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Kerikeri, a popular Bay of Islands community is a three hour drive or forty minute flight from Auckland. Within the Bay of Islands area you will find many other wonderful communities, such as Kawakawa, Russell, Opua, Paihia and Waitangi.
The rich volcanic soils and tropical weather encourages horticultural growing such as kiwifruit, citrus, avocados, persimmons, tamarillos and macadamia nuts. There is an increasing niche for boutique producers of grapes, olive oil, coffee beans, cheese and distilled spirits. There is a strong emphasis on providing organic or spray free produce with a driven flavour.
the
beginning
In September 2004, Puretastes opened its original eatery in Kerikeri, showcasing Northland produce offering cuisine with a contemporary edge and innovative flavours. This global food style has been closely supported by many local foodies as well as travelers from around New Zealand and overseas. With recent press the restaurant has been accepted by many diners as a local icon showcasing and inspiring those who love food, creating a new bench mark and exposing artisan growers and producers.
interlude
In December 2005, Puretastes shifted between towns, 20 minutes east of Kerikeri, to take up a new home based around a poolside environment in the Paihia Beach Resort & Spa Hotel, Ti Te Bay, looking out past Waitangi and Tapeka Point to the open sea in the seaside town of Paihia. With both the resort and spa being recognised worldwide, Puretastes joined them as the family of three in strengthening their brand with the resort's success. Puretastes continues to cater award winning cuisine to both resort guests and outside diners wanting food in the Bay with the X factor!
present day
Puretastes has re-opened after an extensive refurbishment, and is open for breakfast & dinner 7 days.
